The people were just as friendly and laid back as their reputation, and, despite the drought, I was utterly charmed by the underlying beauty of the countryside and the towns and villages. In the end, I couldn’t handle the smoke from all of the slash-and-burn agriculture, but I definitely want to visit Laos again, late in the wet season.
